Surrender & Lifetime Care for Your Parrot
A Lifetime of Love –
Even When You Can No Longer Be There.
Whether you're planning for the future or facing a transition today, we’re here to provide compassionate, lifelong care for your beloved bird.
What Happens When You Can No Longer Care for Your Bird?
At Avian Conservation Kansas City, we understand that parrots often live long, vibrant lives—sometimes 50 years or more. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we offer comprehensive lifetime care options for birds whose owners have passed, become homebound, or can no longer provide the care they deserve.
We provide a loving, permanent home, free from the instability of being passed from shelter to shelter. With our compassionate team, your bird will continue to receive enrichment, nutrition, and affection throughout their lifetime.
💡 Note: There is a standard surrender fee to help offset the cost of onboarding, veterinary care, and initial supplies. Ongoing care may also be supported through bird-specific trust funds.
Real Story – An African Greys Lifelong Journey
One of our beloved residents, Ms Pepper had been with her companion human for over 40 years. When her person began facing serious health concerns, they made a plan—to ensure Ms Pepper would always be cared for, even after they were gone.
Through a simple trust fund Ms Pepper now receives monthly financial support that covers her food, veterinary needs, toys, and enrichment—for the rest of her life.
We honor legacies like this by providing stability, affection, and community to birds like Ms Pepper—and we can do the same for yours.

Gentle Transfer of Care
We offer a gentle transfer of care. Lola a Yellow Naped Amazon and Goose an African grey we recently transferred to our care. Their bird mom has been diagnosed with cancer and was unable to provide care. With this program she visits as often as she wants and we bring her babies to her when she is unable to visit.

Older Birds Need Stability Too
Older parrots often grieve deeply after losing their person. Without a plan, they may end up in unfamiliar rescues or shelters, passed from home to home, each time more confused and heartbroken.
With your planning, we can break that cycle.
When a bird enters our sanctuary through lifetime care, they are never “up for adoption.” Instead, they become part of our flock—permanently and lovingly.
